Production of Organic fertilizer from refuse

The production of Organic Fertilizer had been in progress from 2017 at the refuse Dump at Gohagoda when the Management Committee was active with Chandana Tennakoon as the Commissioner.

This was inaugurated after a failure of a company to produce compost and the buildings were not in use. The Kandy Municipality, from then on took over the Gohagoda Refuse Dump and commenced a successful operation producing compost fertilizer on a small scale.around 40 metric tons.

There are refuse dumps in Kandy at Gohagoda-Katugastoa, Tekkawatte, to which about 100 Metric tons of refuse are taken away from Kandy.

The main area which has the largest Dump of was at Gohagoda. This rfuse dump had a number of problems and a private cmpany took over to produce carbonic fertilizer but it failed due to an internal dispute. Then the Kandy Municipality stepped in to produce a small scale of Organic Fertilizer which is been continued.

It was said that the quality reports come from the Makandura Agriculture Research and Development Insitute.

Governor Lalith U.Gamage, with the Presidential initiative for Organic fertilizer, inspected the refuse dump and also said that better production facilities to be given for better production lines.

The Governor with the Mayor of Kandy, Kesera Sennayake.Deputy Mayor Al Haj Illahi Abdeen, Opposition Leader Sena Disssanayake and offcials were with the Governor on this inspection Tour.
