The University of Peradeniya received a generous donation of 300 computers from the Bank of Ceylon, marking a significant step toward strengthening digital learning and supporting academic development across the university community.
This timely contribution comes in the aftermath of the severe damage caused to several university facilities during the floods that followed Cyclone Ditwah. Among the affected areas were key computer laboratories and administrative units that support the daily academic and operational activities of the university. The donation therefore plays a vital role in restoring and enhancing the university’s technological infrastructure.
The official handover ceremony was held in the presence of the *Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. Terrence Madhujith, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ranjith Pallegama, Registrar, Bursar, Librarian, the Deans of all Faculties, Directors of Postgraduate Institutes, Chairman of the Fundraising Committee of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. Sarath Kodithuwakku, Secretary of the Fundraising Committee, Dr. Piyumali Perera, and members of the Fundraising Committee.*
Representing the *Bank of Ceylon, Deputy General Manager and Head of Branch Operations, Mr. Priyal Silva, Assistant General Manager – Marketing, Mr. Buddhika Premarathne, Assistant General Manager – Central Province, Mr. Damith Ekanayake*, along with other representatives of the bank, participated in the ceremony.
*Chairman of Nipuna Rice Products (Pvt) Ltd., Mr. Siripala Gamlath, and Administration Manager of Freelan Enterprises, Mr. Eranda Karunathilaka*, organizations supported this initiative.
This invaluable donation initiative was coordinated by *Prof. Malaka Ranthilaka of the Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya*.
This collaboration stands as a powerful example of how partnerships between academia and industry can foster resilience, promote innovation, and support the continued advancement of higher education in Sri Lanka.
