Victoria Dam  is to get a new facelift for the promotion of Tourism on the invitiate of Presidnet Ranil Wickramasinghe.
The Governor of the Central Province Lalith U.Gamage was on tour of Victoria Dam, to ascetrtain the areas that could bed deveoped for a ” Viewing Platform “, a Cafteria and a host of areas for both locals and foreigners
Victoria Dam began its construction in  198o and competed it in 1984.
The impounding of the Dam was by Prime Minister Margret Thatcher on 12th April 1985.  In 1981 while work was in progress Queen Elizabeth visited the site to see the work.
The original water fall was only ten feet, but it was known as Victoria Water Falls by the Britsih Planters.
Professor of Geology of the University Professor Vithanage was of the view that there is Gold , Silver and Copper right underneath the present ” Butterfly Dam ” and said that a living vein was underneath and could casue earthquakes.  There is a book written on this by a Journalist on thsi subject.
However Governor visted the Dam and saw for himslef the areas that could attract Tourists.
The Chief Secretary Ajith Pemasinghe and the Engineer in charge of the Dam Vasnatha Ahelpitiya were present;
