A team of researchers at the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya has been able to produce a Three-Wheeler, which they have named as” e-Wheeler”, to be run on Lithium-Ion battery with refinements. They claim that the drained Battery could be exchanged to a charged one safely instead of spending time charging.

They also claim that the digital dashboard within the e-Wheeler indicates the available charge of the battery, how far it can run and the neighboring places where charged batteries
are available for replacement.

Already there is discussion about assembling Lithium-Ion batteries with a private firm but opportunities for the conversion of the three-wheeler into an e-Wheeler still exists.

The prototype was displayed at the “Peradeniya University Research Excellence Showcase (PURES)”, held at the University of Peradeniya.

The project is under the wing of Professor Janaka Ekanayake
